What are the dangers to health?
ANSES warns against taking HairBurst brand food supplements. This company markets chewable candies called Chewable Hair Vitamins® that are specialized for hair growth. This product could have undesirable effects on health, in particular in women using oral contraception.

What are the dangers to health?
These little chewing gums are made up of a mixture of several vitamins (C, B5, B6, B8, B12, E, A) which seem to have no health risks. However, the National Health Security Agency (ANSES) claims to have received two reports in 2019 of cases of acute hepatitis likely to be linked to the intake of this dietary supplement. “The two women, aged 29 and 36, had to be hospitalized and one of them needed an emergency liver transplant, Anses reports on its website. Both were taking an oral contraceptive.”

These problems could be explained by an effect of the combination of several ingredients of the product, a potentially dangerous interaction with other substances (contained in oral contraceptives), or by a fraudulent addition of substance.

Recommendations to follow
The consumption of food supplements is not a trivial act, it is recommended to consult a doctor before starting a treatment. Furthermore, ANSES would like to remind you of the precautions to be taken when taking food supplements: “be very vigilant about the purchase of products sold in non-traditional channels (internet, gyms, etc.) and without individual advice of a health professional “but also” to respect the conditions of use set by the manufacturer. “

The National Health Security Agency also recommends “reporting any side effects that occur following the consumption of a dietary supplement to a healthcare professional.” Thus, in order to prevent further serious cases, she asks women taking oral contraception not to consume the Chewable Hair Vitamins® food supplement from the Hairburst brand.
